Los Angeles actor Kevin Spacey discusses LGBTQ+ tensions

In a June 29, 2026 episode of Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, recorded in Los Angeles, actor Kevin Spacey said he felt alienated and targeted by members of the gay community years before sexual misconduct allegations surfaced in 2017. The 66-year-old Oscar winner claimed that other gay men frequently made jokes and criticisms about his decision to remain closeted, which he said delayed his plan to come out publicly by about two years. Spacey’s eventual coming out in October 2017 coincided with his response to Anthony Rapp’s allegation of an unwanted sexual advance in 1986, drawing significant public and LGBTQ+ criticism.
