Venezuela: U.S. rescuers save mother, infant

In Venezuela, a U.S. search and rescue team has pulled a mother and her nine‑month‑old baby alive from the rubble of a collapsed building days after twin earthquakes devastated the country. The Virginia Urban Search and Rescue Task Force 1 said both victims sustained only minor injuries, sharing video of the woman’s extraction as neighbors cheered, and the U.S. State Department released footage of the baby being carried out wrapped in blue fabric. Nearly 250 specialized U.S. civilian rescuers, aid planes, mobile hospitals and the USS Fort Lauderdale have been deployed, alongside international volunteers, as the death toll exceeds 1,400.
