South Korea has announced plans to build a $518 billion semiconductor megacluster south of Seoul to strengthen its role in global chip supply and meet fast-rising demand from artificial intelligence applications. The project, centered in Yongin and nearby cities, will be developed through 2047 and is expected to involve major investments from Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and a network of smaller suppliers and research institutes. Authorities say the complex will house multiple advanced fabrication plants, packaging facilities and R&D centers. The government plans tax incentives, streamlined permitting and infrastructure upgrades, including power and water, to support the long‑term expansion of the hub.
