United States regulators warn after AssuranceAmerica data breach

U.S. state officials and cybersecurity regulators have issued urgent warnings after AssuranceAmerica Managing General Agency, LLC reported a major data breach affecting at least 1.1 million people in seven states. The Atlanta-based nonstandard auto insurer said malicious cyber activity first targeted an employee on March 16, 2026, with suspicious network behavior detected the next day. An internal probe later confirmed an unauthorized third party accessed internal systems and copied data files containing driver, insurance, and Social Security information. AssuranceAmerica isolated affected servers, hired external forensic experts, completed its review on June 15, 2026, and began mailing breach notices on June 26, 2026.
