United States moves to ease Anthropic AI export curbs

The U.S. Trump administration and artificial intelligence company Anthropic PBC are nearing an agreement that would lift unprecedented export-style restrictions on Anthropic’s two newest models, Claude Fable 5 and Claude Mythos 5. The Commerce Department order, issued on June 12, 2026 under Part 744 of the Export Administration Regulations, required Anthropic to block access for all foreign nationals, including those inside the United States. Lacking nationality-based access controls, Anthropic disabled the models globally. After weeks of negotiations focused on security and safety protocols, both sides are reportedly close to a deal that would allow the systems to come back online with new safeguards.
