Blustery Winds Ground Aircraft as Pocket Fire Creeps Closer to Sedona, Arizona

SEDONA, Arizona – The Pocket Fire burning in the Red Rock–Secret Mountain Wilderness of Coconino National Forest has expanded to 691 acres with 0% containment as of Wednesday afternoon, June 24, 2026. Blustery, erratic winds have forced firefighting aircraft to be grounded, limiting suppression tactics as the fire creeps closer to areas under severe weather warnings north of Sedona. The wildfire, reported Friday evening about seven miles north of Sedona in Oak Creek Canyon, triggered Level 3 “Go” evacuation orders, later downgraded to “Set” after indirect containment lines were established, allowing residents to return home while remaining ready to evacuate again quickly.
