Utah Wildfires Force Mass Evacuations As Blaze Surpasses 118,000 Acres
Extreme hot and dry conditions have fueled a massive expansion of wildfires across the Western United States, forcing widespread emergency evacuations. In Utah, close to a dozen active blazes have scorched more than 300,000 acres. The Widemouth 2 Fire burning in Fishlake National Forest expanded to over 118,000 acres, becoming the largest wildfire in the state for the year. The incident grew significantly more critical following the deaths of two pilots whose helicopter crashed while battling the flames. Meanwhile, the Rocky Canyon Fire, located roughly 30 miles northeast of Salt Lake City, exploded to more than 2,800 acres with zero containment, triggering immediate mandatory evacuations across Morgan County. The National Interagency Fire Center reported that over 30,000 personnel and 640 crews are deployed to more than 94 large active fires nationwide as severe drought conditions persist.
