A newly signed memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, aimed at ending the ongoing conflict, has encountered immediate implementation challenges after extensive Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon. The 14-point agreement was ratified by Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei despite his reservations about long-term alignment with Washington. On Thursday, June 18, the U.S. Navy halted enforcement of a months-long naval blockade on Iranian ports, allowing oil tankers and commercial ships to transit the Strait of Hormuz, while Iran temporarily suspended transit fees.
