American rapper Michael Lawrence Tyler, known as Mystikal, was sentenced on Tuesday to 20 years in a Louisiana state prison after pleading guilty to third-degree rape. The case arose from a July 30, 2022 incident at his Prairieville residence, where a female business acquaintance said she was assaulted after visiting to resolve a financial dispute. Court testimony described Tyler confiscating her phone and car keys, preventing her from leaving, forcing a money transfer via CashApp, and sexually assaulting her. During sentencing in Ascension Parish court, the victim gave an impact statement and requested the maximum penalty. The judge imposed 20 years, five years below the 25-year statutory maximum.
