MADISON, Wis. Big Dog Ranch Rescue announced Monday it reached an agreement to permanently close Ridglan Farms and begin transferring the facility's remaining 475 beagles this week. The rescue had purchased about 1,500 of the farm's more than 2,000 dogs in April; transfers to Florida and Alabama campuses were reported starting Monday. Transfers are ongoing and expected to continue through August, with some dogs moved to other rescues and others sent to Big Dog Ranch Rescue campuses for spay, neuter and adoption preparation. Lauree Simmons, the rescue's founder, urged support for the animals and called for protesters to refrain from further demonstrations this week.
