An Uber driver has filed a civil lawsuit in Los Angeles County Superior Court accusing actor Kiefer Sutherland of assault and battery during a rideshare trip in Hollywood on January 12, 2026. The plaintiff, Rafael Manvelyan, alleges Sutherland was visibly intoxicated, became verbally abusive over a language barrier, and then repeatedly punched him while he was driving. The complaint states Sutherland allegedly placed Manvelyan in a chokehold and threatened to kill him, prompting the driver to stop the vehicle and flee on foot. Manvelyan is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages. Sutherland was previously arrested in connection with the incident.
