JENNINGS COUNTY, Ind. — Jennings County Sheriff William K. "Kenny" Freeman Jr. was indicted Thursday after Indiana State Police investigators traced stolen campaign signs to a dumpster on his North Vernon property using GPS tracking devices placed by a sheriff candidate in November 2025. Troopers recovered the sign, the GPS unit and additional signs at the scene. The grand jury returned multiple charges including two misdemeanor theft counts and Level 6 felony counts of official misconduct, obstruction of justice and perjury; Freeman, 60, turned himself in Monday at the Ripley County Jail and was released on his own recognizance. Authorities say the probe began in November 2025 and criminal proceedings are expected to follow in coming weeks.
