United States orders recall of 1.3 million Jeeps

United States-based automaker Stellantis has announced an urgent safety recall of about 1.3 million Jeep sport utility vehicles due to a risk of engine compartment fires, including when the ignition is switched off. In a notice issued this week, the company urged owners of affected models to park their vehicles outside and away from homes, garages, and other vehicles until repairs are completed, in order to reduce the chance of fire spreading to nearby structures or property. The recall covers a broad portion of the Jeep lineup sold across the country and represents one of the largest safety-related actions in the automotive sector so far in the 2026 calendar year. United States authorities are coordinating with Stellantis as the company works with safety regulators to identify impacted vehicles by VIN, notify owners, and organize inspections and repairs through its dealer network. Stellantis has said it is expediting the availability of parts and formal repair procedures, with dealers expected to receive detailed instructions in the coming days. The automaker has advised owners to check the official Stellantis and Jeep websites or contact their local dealerships for information on whether their vehicles are included in the recall and to schedule service appointments once parts and procedures are in place.
