Missouri rivers crest above flood stage, roads closed

MISSOURI – Rivers across parts of Missouri have reached or surpassed flood stage, prompting the National Weather Service to issue urgent flood warnings for several river systems, including the Grand River near Sumner and the 102 River at Rosendale. As of early Saturday, the Grand River at Sumner measured 28.1 feet at 3:45 a.m. CDT, above its 26.0-foot flood stage, and forecasters expect it to crest near 31.7 feet shortly after midnight. The rising water is already producing moderate flooding and is threatening rural access points, critical infrastructure, and low-lying bottomland agricultural areas along the river. MISSOURI – On the 102 River at Rosendale, gauges showed a stage of 19.9 feet on Friday evening, exceeding the 18.0-foot flood stage and leaving State Route 48 impassable to traffic. The National Weather Service has extended flood warnings through June 9, 2026, and continues to stress that most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles. Officials urge residents and motorists to follow posted signs, avoid driving around barricades, and stay off flooded roadways as river levels remain elevated and conditions can change rapidly, especially near rural crossings and low-lying routes.
