A fast-moving brush fire dubbed the Gorgonio Fire has burned more than 3,400 acres in Riverside County, California, prompting mandatory evacuations for about 2,200 residents near the city of Banning. The blaze ignited in the afternoon north of Interstate 10 and, as of today, remains at zero percent containment, according to CAL FIRE. Triple-digit temperatures around 104 degrees Fahrenheit and wind gusts up to 35 miles per hour are driving rapid fire growth. Over 450 firefighters, supported by engines, bulldozers, hand crews, and six fixed-wing air tankers, are working in steep, chaparral-covered terrain. An emergency shelter is operating at San Gorgonio High School.
