The Supreme Court on Friday declined to stay a Delhi High Court order permitting Olympian wrestler Vinesh Phogat to participate in the Asian Games 2026 selection trials scheduled for May 30 and 31 in Delhi; the bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe directed that she be allowed to compete while the petition by the Wrestling Federation of India is examined. The court issued notice to Phogat on the WFI petition and flagged concerns about anti-doping whereabouts and related timelines raised during the hearing; the Delhi HC had on May 22 ordered video recording of the trials and supervision by independent observers appointed by the Sports Authority of India and the Indian Olympic Association, and the WFI has argued the order may affect fairness for other wrestlers.
