PHOENIX — Iran's Football Federation announced Saturday that the national team has moved its official World Cup training base from Tucson, Arizona, to Tijuana, Mexico, after the federation said FIFA approved the change. Mehdi Taj, federation president, issued the statement naming Tijuana as the new base; FIFA had not independently confirmed the move at the time of the announcement. Local officials in Tucson said they had no comment Saturday, and FIFA's confirmation remained pending. The move, cited as prompted by security concerns related to conflict in the Middle East, shifts pre-tournament logistics ahead of the June 11–July 19 World Cup and may affect border arrangements, training schedules and accommodations for Team IR Iran.
