BATON ROUGE — LSU head coach Lane Kiffin announced Wednesday that Ed Orgeron will rejoin the football staff as special assistant to recruiting and defense, returning to the program he led to the 2019 national title. Kiffin said Orgeron brings national recruiting ability and will work with defensive players and prospects on campus. Orgeron's return follows his 2019 15-0 championship season and his 2021 firing with a $17 million buyout, the final payment issued last year; WBRZ reported a term sheet granting Orgeron a contract through Jan. 31, 2027 with a $100,000 base salary paid monthly and vehicle allowance, pending LSU Board of Supervisors approval.
