LOS ANGELES — Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke has died at the age of 29, the team and his agency, Priority Sports, confirmed on Tuesday. Clarke was found dead on Monday at a residence in the Los Angeles area, according to authorities. A person familiar with the ongoing investigation said emergency personnel discovered drug paraphernalia inside the home, and an autopsy has been scheduled to determine the specific cause of death. Neither the Grizzlies nor Clarke’s representatives have commented on how he died. In a statement, the Grizzlies described Clarke as an outstanding teammate whose impact on the Memphis community would not be forgotten. MEMPHIS — NBA Commissioner Adam Silver offered condolences to Clarke’s family and the Grizzlies, noting that Clarke was one of the longest-tenured players on the team and was recognized for competing with passion and grit. Clarke, a veteran of seven NBA seasons, was selected 21st overall in the 2019 NBA Draft and finished fourth in 2019–20 Rookie of the Year voting and 11th in 2021–22 Sixth Man of the Year voting. Over 309 career games, he averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds. Clarke was under contract with Memphis for the 2026–27 season. The San Antonio Spurs held a moment of silence before their playoff game Tuesday, and former teammates and coaches, including Gonzaga’s Mark Few, issued tributes highlighting his character and contribution to the sport.
