WASHINGTON — The Pentagon announced on Friday, May 1, that it reached agreements to integrate advanced AI capabilities from seven companies into Defense Department classified networks, naming SpaceX, OpenAI, Google, NVIDIA, Reflection, Microsoft and Amazon Web Services for deployment within Impact Levels 6 and 7 environments to support operational tasks. The department said these deals aim to accelerate an 'AI-first' military and strengthen warfighter decision superiority; the statement excluded Anthropic, which the Pentagon earlier labeled a supply-chain risk, and Xinhua reported an additional firm, Oracle, on May 2. The Navy also signed a contract worth up to $99.7 million with Domino Data Lab for AI-enhanced mine detection.
