CHICAGO — On Saturday, authorities say Alphanso Talley allegedly fatally shot Chicago Police Officer John Bartholomew and critically wounded his partner inside Swedish Hospital after being taken there following an armed robbery at a Family Dollar on the North Side. Prosecutors told a court this week the same firearm allegedly was used in both the earlier robbery and the hospital shootings. This week Talley appeared in Cook County court for a detention hearing and faces charges including first‑degree murder, attempted murder and aggravated battery; a judge ordered him detained. Police also charged an 18‑year‑old, Jeron Tate, in connection with the preceding robbery, and the Chicago Police Department opened internal affairs and procedural reviews into custodial searches and hospital security.
