New York, April 30 — The New York Knicks eliminated the Atlanta Hawks with a 140-89 Game 6 victory, the largest playoff win in franchise history and one of the most lopsided results in NBA postseason history. New York seized control immediately, opening a 40-15 first-quarter lead, the biggest opening-period margin of the shot clock era, and stretching the gap to 47 points by halftime, the largest halftime advantage ever in the playoffs. OG Anunoby led the Knicks with 29 points in 27 minutes, including 26 before the break, while Mikal Bridges added 24 points as New York’s offense topped 100 points with 8:21 left in the third quarter. Karl-Anthony Towns recorded his second triple-double of the series with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, five days after becoming just the fourth Knicks player to post a triple-double in the postseason. The 51-point margin tied for the sixth-largest in NBA playoff history, and New York’s starters sat the final 14-plus minutes after building an insurmountable lead. Atlanta shot 12-for-39 from the field and 4-for-18 from 3-point range in the first half, committing 14 turnovers as Jalen Johnson, who finished with 21 points, tried to keep the Hawks competitive. Dyson Daniels and Mitchell Robinson were ejected after a second-quarter altercation, and the Knicks advanced to face the winner of the Boston Celtics–Philadelphia 76ers series in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
