Atlanta — Delta Air Lines announced this week that it will raise checked-bag fees on domestic and some short international flights, increasing the first bag to $45, the second to $55 and the third to $200, with ticket purchases subject to new pricing from April 8. The increases follow similar moves by United and JetBlue amid surging jet fuel costs driven by Middle East tensions; Delta cited roughly $400 million in added fuel expense in the fourth quarter, preserved elite and military exemptions, and said the changes reflect evolving global conditions.
