Mississippi synagogue targeted by arsonist for 'Jewish ties': FBI
Authorities say Stephen Pittman admitted setting fire to a historic Mississippi synagogue, claiming he targeted it for its “Jewish ties” and calling it “the synagogue of Satan.” Charged with maliciously damaging a building by fire, he allegedly broke a window with an ax, poured gasoline, and used a torch lighter. His father reported him after seeing burns and hearing his confession, the FBI said. No injuries were reported, but the 165-year-old library and offices were badly damaged; two Torahs were destroyed while one, survivor of the Holocaust, endured.
