Indiana U.S. Rep. Jim Baird was hospitalized after his vehicle was struck in a crash, but his office said he is expected to make a full recovery and thanked supporters for their prayers. President Donald Trump told House Republicans at a Kennedy Center retreat that Baird’s wife was also hospitalized, adding both are expected to be fine. Baird, 80, represents Indiana’s 4th District and was first elected in 2019. The news arrived as Republicans mourned the death of California Rep. Doug LaMalfa and, following Marjorie Taylor Greene’s resignation, narrowed their House control to 218 to 213.
