Brookline, Massachusetts — A Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor was shot Monday night and died Tuesday morning. Authorities identified him as Nuno F.G. Loureiro, 47, director of MIT’s Plasma Science and Fusion Center and a faculty member in Nuclear Science & Engineering and Physics. Responding officers found Loureiro in his home foyer; he was taken to a hospital where he died. The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, Brookline police and Massachusetts State Police opened an active homicide investigation and said no suspect was in custody.
