Washington — President Donald Trump hosted the leaders of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda on Thursday to sign a U.S.-brokered pact aimed at ending decades of conflict in eastern Congo and expanding U.S. access to critical minerals. Presidents Felix Tshisekedi and Paul Kagame signed the Washington Accords at the U.S. Institute of Peace, recently renamed for Trump, after months of diplomatic efforts that included official foreign ministers' talks in June. Fighting by M23 rebels and humanitarian displacement continued on the ground. The agreement commits to ceasefires, economic cooperation and mineral agreements.
