TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Florida lawmakers advanced four proposed constitutional amendments this week to reduce property taxes for homeowners, including a measure (HJR 201) to eliminate non-school property taxes for homestead properties on the 2026 ballot. The State Affairs Committee approved the measures Dec. 2 amid warnings from counties and cities that eliminating taxes could cut $14.1 billion in local revenue and threaten services. Economists project home values could rise 7–9% if property taxes were removed. Similar property-tax reform debates are unfolding in Ohio and Nebraska this legislative cycle, prompting broader statewide fiscal debates. Based on 11 articles reviewed and supporting research.
