Maryland Gov. Wes Moore on Sunday defended his newly formed commission to explore mid-decade redistricting, arguing the state shouldn’t play by “different rules” as Republicans and Democrats elsewhere pursue new maps. Moore said the effort could address Maryland’s lone GOP-held House seat and rebuffed Donald Trump’s pressure. The move follows Trump-backed pushes in GOP states and California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Prop 50, which passed with more than 60%. But Senate President Bill Ferguson opposes the plan, warning of high legal risk and saying Democrats don’t need to “rig the system.”
