Washington is mourning goalkeeper Mia Hamant, 21, who died Thursday from kidney cancer, the university said. A 2024 standout, she posted a 0.66 goals-against average — third best in program history — and later sat out her senior season following an April Stage 4 diagnosis. Teammates and coaches praised her spirit, and the Big Ten honored her with the 2025 Sportsmanship Award this week. She attended an Oct. 25 football win, with receiver Denzel Boston voicing support, and sounded the Husky Stadium siren two weeks before her death. She is survived by her parents.
