USC, ranked No. 20, beat Northwestern 38-17 Friday night after springing a legal fake punt. Third-string quarterback Sam Huard, wearing the same No. 80 as punter Sam Johnson following a quiet roster change, joined the punt team and completed a 10-yard pass to Tanook Hines. The first down extended the Trojans’ second drive, finished by a Jayden Maiava touchdown run. Huard, a former five-star who began at Washington, grinned as he high fived teammates.
