Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said after White House talks that Hungary secured an exemption from US sanctions on Russian energy, covering oil and gas via the Druzhba and TurkStream pipelines. A White House official, speaking anonymously, said the waiver lasts one year. Trump, who hosted Orban, said he was considering the move and urged EU leaders to respect the Hungarian leader. Hungary, still heavily reliant on Russian supplies, also plans to buy nuclear fuel rods from the United States for two Russian-built plants, and continues to oppose EU plans to phase out Russian gas.
