A powerful jolt rippled through northern Afghanistan at 12:59 a.m. Monday, a magnitude 6.3 earthquake centered 22 kilometers west-southwest of Khulm at a depth of 28 kilometers, the U.S. Geological Survey said. There were no immediate reports of damage. The region has endured deadly quakes in recent years, including a 6.0 in August 2025 that killed more than 2,200 people and a 6.3 in October 2023 that left at least 4,000 dead, according to the Taliban government.
