At a Mass for deceased cardinals and bishops, Pope Leo XIV prayed for their purification and that they might shine like stars, and asked that their quiet encouragement sustain the living. He remembered with affection Pope Francis, who died after opening the Holy Door and giving the Easter Blessing, saying the Jubilee lends the Mass the flavor of Christian hope. Reflecting on Emmaus, he condemned violent death, affirmed Christ alone redeems it, and called Easter hope a transforming gift that makes death a sister. He praised the late shepherds as witnesses and teachers of Paschal hope.
