Wildlife photographer Bret Saalwaechter captured a tense, comic scene in Tanzania’s Serengeti: hungry lion cubs hounding heat-weary mothers during the dry season. His image, I Just Can’t Wait to Be King, reached the final round of this year’s Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards. Other selected finalists include a gannet smacked by grass at Bempton Cliffs, frogs hitching a boost in Western Australia, a grinning brown bear cub, territorial guillemots in Norway, a high-kicking young gorilla in Rwanda, a head-tucked flamingo on a Caribbean beach, and a finger-licking crowned sifaka in Madagascar.
