North Korea fired multiple short-range ballistic missiles Wednesday, its first such tests in five months, South Korea’s military said. Launched from south of Pyongyang, the missiles flew about 350 kilometers northeast and did not land in the sea. The tests come days before U.S. President Donald Trump and other leaders are expected in South Korea for meetings around next week’s APEC summit. Seoul said its forces remain ready with U.S. support, and Japan reported close coordination and real-time data sharing. The launches follow May drills simulating nuclear counterstrikes and recent displays of a new intercontinental missile.
