Frogs and Defiance Fill Portland's Protests | JQJO

Portland’s waterfront swelled with crowds several times June’s turnout, as protesters adopted inflatable frogs—sparked by a viral clip—as their new symbol. The demonstrations followed President Donald Trump’s moves to target “antifa” and send the National Guard to “protect” ICE, prompting a lawsuit by Oregon and the city. Speakers vowed to meet “fascism with absurdism,” and signs mocked claims of paid protesters. After downtown rallies, costumed crowds gathered at the ICE facility, facing armored agents and spotlights amid lingering pepper-ball fumes, dancing to pop songs and chanting back while troopers and police liaisons moved through.
