Blast at reporter’s home prompts anti-mafia probe | JQJO

A car belonging to investigative journalist Sigfrido Ranucci exploded outside his home in Pomezia, south of Rome, late Thursday, destroying his car, damaging another vehicle and the front gate, but injuring no one. Anti-mafia magistrates opened an investigation as Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the blast as a serious act of intimidation. Ranucci, the RAI3 Report anchor under police protection since 2021, called it an escalation after years of threats tied to his reporting on organized crime. The attack coincided with the eighth anniversary of Daphne Caruana Galizia’s murder, prompting renewed warnings from press-freedom advocates.
