Microsoft has ended free security support for Windows 10 and is leaning on new AI-laced Windows 11 features to spur upgrades. The company unveiled deeper Copilot integration, including a hands-free “Hey, Copilot” voice mode and Copilot Vision, which analyzes what’s on screen. Advocates warned that dropping support leaves millions choosing between vulnerability or replacing older PCs, raising e-waste concerns. Paid extended security updates are available through October 2026, with some EU users and certain U.S. cloud-synced users eligible at no charge. Microsoft’s Yusuf Mehdi called laptop conversations “as transformative as the mouse and keyboard.”
