Barack Obama endorsed Democratic former Rep. Abigail Spanberger in Virginia's governor race, appearing in two new digital ads that stress the economy and abortion rights and urge that "every vote counts." Spanberger faces Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears in one of two governor contests this year, closely watched as a signal of voter sentiment one year after the 2024 election and ahead of 2026; Trump has not weighed in. Spanberger leads in polls and ad spending, though turnout is a concern. Obama also appears in a California TV ad on redistricting, as Democrats rally for Spanberger.
