Dozens rescued as remnants of typhoon hits Alaska while nor’easter brings flooding to East Coast

More than 30 people were rescued and three remain unaccounted for in western Alaska after Typhoon Halong’s remnants drove hurricane‑force winds and flooding that swept away homes. Aircraft reached Kipnuk and Kwigillingok; at least 18 were rescued in Kwigillingok (three unaccounted) and 16 in Kipnuk, while hundreds sheltered in school buildings, officials said. Gov. Mike Dunleavy pledged assistance. Meanwhile a nor’easter battered the East Coast, prompting coastal flooding warnings from Virginia to New Jersey, flight disruptions, road closures, a voluntary evacuation order, emergency declarations in New York and New Jersey, and Delaware’s National Guard activation.
