Microsoft will end support for Windows 10 from Wednesday 14 October, halting security updates and leaving millions of PCs more vulnerable. The company urges eligible users to upgrade for free to Windows 11, while others can enrol in Extended Security Updates to receive security updates through October 2026 — free if they update to the latest Windows 10, back up settings and use a Microsoft account, or for $30/1,000 Rewards points (commercial devices: $61). Critics warn the move could drive unnecessary spending and waste; Which? says up to 21 million UK users remain on Windows 10.
