An appeals court ruled Saturday that National Guard troops sent to Illinois by President Donald Trump may remain under federal control but cannot patrol or guard federal property for now. The court paused the case pending further arguments, following Judge April Perry’s temporary block for lack of evidence of a “danger of rebellion” amid Trump’s immigration crackdown. Citing law and history, Perry noted courts are open and federal agents have increased arrests and deportations. About 500 Guard members were mostly based at a U.S. Army Reserve Center in Elwood, with a small contingent at an ICE building in Broadview.
