Along the pedestrian street below the Acropolis, visitors now see the Parthenon unobstructed: scaffolding on its western façade is gone, leaving the exterior free on all sides for the first time in about 200 years. Culture Minister Lina Mendoni told Skai radio the view feels like “a completely different monument.” The pause is brief. Lighter scaffolding, closer to the monument’s aesthetic, will return to the west side in about a month as conservation resumes, running until early summer 2026. The Acropolis drew 4.5 million visitors in 2024.
