Quaker, a 15-year-old black horse from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment, has been retired to The Horse Trust sanctuary after last year’s chaotic gallop through London left him with a broken bone and serious bleeding. The incident on April 24, 2024 began when five horses, spooked by the noise of construction rubble falling through a chute during morning exercise, bolted, smashing into taxis and a tour bus as police pursued them for five miles. Four people and five soldiers were injured. Maj. Thomas Stewart said Quaker couldn’t return to duties for welfare reasons.
