Attorney General Pam Bondi was blindsided when President Donald Trump’s handpicked US attorney, Lindsey Halligan, won a grand jury indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James on bank fraud and false statements charges, sources told CNN. Halligan, leading the Eastern District of Virginia, moved ahead without coordinating with Bondi or Main Justice and presented the case alone in Alexandria; it will be heard in Norfolk. Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche had viewed the case as weak, echoing advice from former US attorney Erik Siebert and career lawyers. A DOJ spokesman declined grand jury comment, stressing unity.
