Sony has quietly ended production of its final 4K UHD Blu‑ray player, the UBP‑X700/K, in Japan. The decision follows a broader shift by the PlayStation maker away from home electronics and physical media. Sony sold much of its TV and hardware production to TCL earlier this year, and it has announced that new PlayStation games will be digital‑only starting in January 2028. The UBP‑X700/K will no longer be restocked, marking the likely end of consumer‑grade UHD players from Sony worldwide.

A new study from the Stevens Institute of Technology shows that entrepreneurs have a ten percent lower risk of early death than those who work for others. The research examined more than twenty years of data from over twenty‑seven thousand Americans aged fifty and older. It found that those who started their own business had a lower risk of premature death even after adjusting for age, income, education and wealth. The longevity advantage was strongest for opportunity‑driven entrepreneurs who launched businesses to fill market gaps or pursue innovation. The study suggests that autonomy, ownership and purpose at work may contribute to healthier, longer lives.

Russia bombarded Kyiv with ballistic missiles, striking apartment buildings, energy facilities, and the subway. At least four people died and dozens were wounded. The attack followed President Vladimir Putin’s Wednesday agreement in principle to resume three‑way negotiations with Ukraine and the United States. Russian forces also claimed to intercept over eight hundred Ukrainian drones aimed at Moscow and other cities. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the barrage, saying Russia has not altered its war tactics.

Federal prosecutors and California Attorney General Rob Bonta held opposing news conferences in downtown Los Angeles, each claiming credit for a sweeping crackdown on medical fraud. Federal officials announced a take‑down of doctors and providers alleged to have bilked taxpayers of nearly two billion dollars through unnecessary surgeries, sham addiction programs, and bogus hospice care. Bonta countered that state investigators had arrested a surgeon accused of performing needless procedures for profit, accusing the federal office of politicizing the investigations. The dispute highlighted the growing tension between state and federal efforts to protect vulnerable Californians and taxpayer dollars.
