Mexican marine biologist Mauricio Hoyos was seriously injured in a shark attack off Costa Rica's Cocos Island. The 48-year-old scientist was bitten on the head and arms while tagging sharks for monitoring. Rescued by authorities after a 36-hour journey, Hoyos arrived at a hospital in the capital in stable condition. The incident is considered rare, especially given Hoyos's dedication to shark conservation.
