Former Trump defense attorney Lindsey Halligan will lead the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Eastern District of Virginia. Trump announced the appointment on social media, praising Halligan's loyalty and describing her as a "tough prosecutor." This follows the resignation of the previous U.S. Attorney, Erik Siebert, amid pressure from Trump officials to pursue a case against New York Attorney General Letitia James. Halligan lacks prosecutorial experience but represented Trump during the classified documents investigation. The appointment has raised concerns given her lack of experience and Trump's apparent influence on the decision.
