With flu season approaching after a severe 2022-2023 season, health officials urge vaccination. The CDC recommends flu shots for everyone over 6 months old. September and October are ideal vaccination times, but shots remain effective later. Last year, vaccination rates were below 50% for both children and adults. While the vaccine may not eliminate flu risk, it significantly reduces severity and prevents severe complications. Mild side effects, such as muscle aches or low-grade fever, are common but temporary. Flu shots are widely available at pharmacies and doctor's offices.
